Samovar Russian Cuisine

I hate to admit it but I think I will. I’m actually not a big fan of Russian or even, Arab food. No, am not discriminating. But it’s just so.. erm.. Not me? This time round, I went to Samovar Russian Restaurant at Solaris Mont Kiara thanks to I LOVE DISCOUNTS. This discount was featured on the website a few weeks back where it was just RM25 for Meal for 2. Giving you 50% off from it’s original RM 50. I seemed reluctant going for a new taste but I did it after all. And to my amazement, it wasn’t all too bad So, I thought this was one of my personal favourite. The Olivia Russian Traditional Salad. The taste was a well blend of mixed veg and some meat (and cheese, I think). And I thought the blending of taste was pretty appetizing.IMG_0138 IMG_0139 Kicking off your meals, you also get a Borsh Soup. Though I think the soup was pretty ordinary. I was not able to compare to the usual Borsh Soup because this is an entirely different cuisine. I thought the taste could have been a lil more sour. But averagely, for a soup, it was something unique that it’s worth a try!IMG_0140  Going into the Main Course, this is Katletti (Breaded minced chicken with butter and cheese filling). The Chicken was a little bit oily and salty, at first. But when it’s mixed with the rice, I think it was such a good mix. The chicken was fresh and there are actually some spices and sauces for you to add on to flavour it, which I thought it was pretty interesting!IMG_0143Pepper, mayonnaise and chilli sauce. IMG_0144 This was the Blinchiki (Beef rolled inside a pancake) and Golubtsy (Meat rolled in cabbage leaves and stewed – a famous Russian Winter dish). I thought the beef in Blinchiki was pretty tender, fresh and nice. It was nicely wrapped and you can also add some black pepper sauce.IMG_0146 This is really a nice dish and it’s pretty filling.IMG_0145 You are also served with Ice Lemon Tea as part of the discount. Generally, the whole shop has a great ambience and it’s clean. The ambience is quiet and calm. It also faces the NKVE highway where you see cars all over.If you enjoy seeing cars, that’s the place to hang out at. Before I forget, Samovar also offers Western and Italian favourites like steaks, grilled meats, lasagna and spaghettis. They also have a Bring-Your-Own Alcohol policy. There are no alcohol offered on the menu. Nevertheless, you can bring your own and there are no corkage charges. If you think thats just it, glasses and ice are all at your service for free. This deal ended on January 25, 2011 on ILOVEDISCOUNTS. If you did not get this deal, you kinda missed us, cause it’s not always you get 50% off on your favourite meals. __________________________________________________________________________ SAMOVAR RUSSIAN CAFE K-01-08 SOHO KL, 1st Floor (Facing NKVE Highway), few doors from Tenji, Solaris Mont Kiara Business Hours: Daily from 3pm-12am. I Have A Big Mouth.

Hello! So, you know me well. I have a fantarstic big mouth. You don’t need to know me well to know that I have a big mouth anyways. Yeap, I went into a cafe that actually resembles me and my BIG MOUTH! 😀 So, I actually went into a restaurant cafe called The Big Mouth to do some food tasting sponsored by ILOVEDISCOUNTS. This was one of the deal featured (and ended) a week ago!DSC_0004I was there to test out some cakes and coffee. And of course, it was not at all disappointing. Staying true to it’s tagline – Simply Exotic Taste really caught me. Cause the cakes tasted better than it looks. Yes, looks ain’t that deceiving. It ain’t an oxymoron afterall. The first cake I tasted was this: Chocolate Pralinosa Crunchy (RM 6.90). Being a nutty person like me, I love nuts. The cake wasn’t too sweet and the best part was it is crunchy because of the nuts! The dark chocolate wasn’t too bitter neither was it too sweet either. Okay, don’t judge me. I love everything that’s nutty because I go nuts often!DSC_0009Next, I decided to try something more common to see if it stands out as compared to others. So, I selected – Blueberry Chill Cheese (RM 6.90) since you see this cake almost in every cake shop. Don’t chu? I expected this cake to be filling and cheesy. But to my amazement, it wasn’t. It was light and fluffy (quotes my friend). And I think I enjoyed it much because it’s just nice for tea time – where you don’t need filling cakes to stuff your stomach and get you all sleepy. Though I did think that the layer of crust below it could be a little thicker. Yes, I love all crunchy things!DSC_0017 I also ordered this unique Italiano Hot Chocolate (RM 6.90). The staff did claim that it was quite a hit order. I think this drink was just okay. And it’s chocolate was too light. I need it sweeter and thicker for this one! But the aroma and taste is of course there already!DSC_0018 Okay, this looks a bit funny here for a Caramel Hazelnut Latte (RM 5.90). I think being a Barista previously has shaped my tongue into one big fussy one! I did enjoy this better than the Italiano Chocolate. Though I prefer the Hazelnut Latte at my previous workplace. But this wasn’t too bad but just that the taste of coffee would be better if it was stronger. But if you like something that isn’t too heavy. I think you’ve found the right drink!DSC_0020All in all, this is one cozy cafe for chats and talkover; whether it’s business or leisure. It has a nice ambience and good service. I’ve to say that there were many staffs there in the cafe. This cafe serves other meals like sandwiches, pasta, burgers and some western too for meals. A pity I didn’t get to try any of those meals. This deal ended on January 15, 2011 on ILOVEDISCOUNTS as it was a 53% discount for a cake and a cuppa coffee. And with the ambience, the cakes quality. it’s sure worth a go.DSC_0032e2Photos credit to Nicholas Pang and Lim Yi Hueih. __________________________________________________________________________ THE BIG MOUTH 24-1, Jalan USJ 9/5N, Subang Jaya, 47620, Selangor, Malaysia Tel: +603-80249095 __________________________________________________________________________ Get the best deals: ILOVEDISCOUNTS Facebook – http://www.facebook.com/welovediscounts ILOVEDISCOUNTS Twitter – @ilovediscountmy

My Superstar Moment and Expensive Scallop

You know I was just talking about my Superstar Moment on my last post; so here is the whole thing. As we were busy taking and snapping some photos on this big board behind, I thought it was just ordinary. Little did I know and expected some “friends” came and pulled my hand while I was about to walk off to take some pictures with them. I was like, “Who am I?”. So I did. I think I was there with 4 “friends” and pictures will tell you that my pictures was snapped on my camera and theirs too. Now, I don’t know where my photos in their camera went.DSC03145 DSC03146 DSC03151 There they go, I don’t know who they are. I look extremely fat in this picture! :(DSC03153 DSC03154 And despite people saying and talking about how bad Singapore food is (as compared to Malaysia); I choose to stand on the fence. They do have some good and yummy food too! 😛DSC03162 Some sweet pastries for your teeth…DSC03163 And for the first night, we had dinner with some entrepreneur at this restaurant. Nice food and I suppose it’s a fine dining. Check out the cost too of course larh! :opDSC03164 You tell me with this pricing, what happen if it isn’t nice?DSC03167 DSC03168 The menu was also unique. And whats more delicious are the abalones with egg white. The egg white was so delicious while the scallop was so tender. I likes! :pDSC03169 DSC03170DSC03171 Yeah, this is just too delicious. I want to have another piece, who wants to buy me one?

Doubletree Hotel by Hilton

Some of you may have overheard or ter-read on Twitter or Facebook that I won a 2 Days 1 Night Stay at the Guestroom at Doubletree Hotel by Hilton. Doubletree Hotel by Hilton is actually the old Crowne Plaza, if I remembered correctly. With the winning entry on one of their Merdeka Day Facebook Contest, I was invited with a bunch of winners and bloggers to attend their dinner as well as to collect my prize. Like I said, I won a 2 Days 1 Night Stay. Some blogger from Advertlets were there such as Josh Lim and Jin from Hitz.Fm Party Show (which he also blogged about it here)IMG_0360I was also treated to a sumptuous meal at the Makan Kitchen. There are various food in Makan Kitchen and each section called Kitchen has their own specialty.IMG_0361This was the Chinese Section where you get the Chinese food like Dim Sum and some other normal Chinese Food. IMG_0362This was more of the Malay Section, where you get rojak. Goreng Pisang and all. The goreng pisang was nice. Really nice. 😉 IMG_0364This was the Iban side of food. Which I think it was also combined with some Indian food. I didn’t try this much as I was not a big fan of Indian food. But I did try some of it. IMG_0366 IMG_0367Some of the seating positions at Makan Kitchen. They have really nice interior. Loving the designs and the simplicity as well as the lightings accompanied with it. IMG_0368The view from Makan Kitchen. IMG_0370And we were also given a tour before we actually ate because we were waiting for buka puasa. We were brought around the newly renovated and refurbished hotel. I’ve to say it’s really nice and well done. We went to the gym first. The gym has loads of equipments as well as its a really nice environment.IMG_0372 IMG_0373This was their Italian Restaurants. Sorry for the lack of pictures. But it looks really nice. IMG_0374This was a random view shot from below which I took.IMG_0376The outside section where you can grab a drink. IMG_0377Because it was time to buka puasa, we went back for a meal first. But this is something you might wanna look for when you’re there – The Teppanyaki Ice Cream. It’s really crunchy and nice. I loved it very much.IMG_0382And this is the Teppanyaki Ice Cream IMG_0383My lovely ice-kacang. Other food I didn’t take much! :) IMG_0384We were brought up to the hotel too. These are some of the images of the room. IMG_0386 IMG_0387This is funny so I had to do this, the glass was transparent. You can see whatever happening inside the washroom if you leave the blind open. LOL. If you wanna show your partner something, this might be something interesting for you to do? :op IMG_0389 View from the hotel rooms.IMG_0390Another part of the hotel: IMG_0391 IMG_0392 IMG_0393 This is The Food Store where they sell stuffs:IMG_0394They are also famous for their Chocolate Chip Cookies. I was given one. They serve it to the guests who comes when they check in. It is also available for sale of course:IMG_0395 So, this is such an adventure by winning the 2 Days 1 Night Stay. I have yet to use it yet. The KL Tour

Being Malaysians, we rarely even go around visiting our country but I guess with this field trip, I did have a fair chance of visiting the temple, Brickfields, Istana Negara and some other places which many Malaysians we probably even takes it for granted. And we always go “What is there to do in Malaysia?” Well, here are definitely some of the places you can visit! We hoped on to town for a short photo taking and visiting. And coincidentally, Dataran Merdeka was packed with tents and all as it was preparing for a Nike event for World Cup. There you go, some shots here from Indro, my classmate. (Note: the last picture was a pose)IMG_5494 IMG_5495 IMG_5499 I look horribly fat in this picture. Sigh.IMG_5508 At Istana Negara where we get to take more pictures!IMG_5516 IMG_5525 IMG_5532 A tea time at Brickfields, I kinda dislike this place. Too busy and dirty. And the restaurants had rats all over it. And the restaurant we went had a huge banner that writes “Najib’s Corner”; because our Prime Minister had eaten there before.IMG_5534This was the poser picture I told you about. I am such a bad poser anyways! 😛IMG_5540 So, bye bye to my KL Field Trip. Off for another interesting topic soon!

More food & My Embarrassing Moments

At Kong Kong’s birthday, food was aplenty at all table. It was truly a great celebration we had._MG_1937 This is Kong Kong and one of my relatives; you know I don’t really remember who’s who as I get more and more distant from my long lost relatives._MG_1941 Cousins #1 – Elizabeth, Justin and Terrence _MG_1942 Cousins #2 – Jason, Nelson, Allison_MG_1943 And more food. This fish was really awesome and delicious. I remembered I had loads of it. Now you know why I am fat, don’t chu? 😛_MG_1947 This was what I was saying, my embarrassing moments. I had to do a performance with some of my cousins. I literally hold the mic throughout the song. I’ve been singing often, but not in front of a bunch of relatives and with my cousins as my support. It was one great experience though it was just a little uncomfortable singing in front of your relatives. And prolly despite how bad you sing, it’d still be good feedback. I did felt a little uncomfortable._MG_1954 _MG_1956 And this cousin of mine Justin; played the electric guitar as a performance. I seriously forgotten the name of the complicated song though I know it was a tough song to play._MG_1965 The ever joyous and lively Kong Kong:_MG_1969 Performance by my other cousins:_MG_1975 Don’t they look like twins? Adeline and Amy. Amy is just a year younger than me._MG_1979_MG_1995 I did a multimedia presentation for my grandpa’s birthday. It was just great memories to see how much each and everyone has grown. Yes, spot my baby picture in it if you can! 😛_MG_1997I just realised I’ve not uploaded the video on Youtube, i’d do so tomorrow aite? Love your precious ones!

Edmund & Jian Hong’s Birthday

Here’s a quick update with some poor pictures. Nevertheless, it has been long since I last blogged about my Foundations gang. I used to blogged about them often but neh, not nowadays. Edmund and Jian Hong’s birthday both falls almost at the same time of the month. Hence, a dwi-celebration. We love doing that, save time (and money) too! But it ain’t easy gathering everyone since we were all from different classes and intakes now. To cut the long story (I am very long winded lately), we went to a restaurant called Big Mouth at Sri Petaling. Don’t ask me why the name is so awesome! 😛 DSC03053 Here are some random ugly shots of us:DSC03054 The food. I forgot what it is called.DSC03055 Featuring the co-star: Edmund:DSC03056 The cake goes: Happy Birthday Human and Penguin. I don’t know which is which but it just somehow appeared on the cake. I realised our cakes has never been simple. It has always been with funny names, words and all. Funny when you browse through those old albums.DSC03059 It took so many shots to get both of them to take a picture together. And it was like centuries.DSC03062 DSC03063 I just had to do this to them 😛 How lovely. 😛DSC03064 Here’s one thing I was so wanting to delete but I thought since he craved for fame so much, I should just make him a blog-star at www.alvinmy.blogspot.com . His vanity can beat none and he enjoys taking his ugly pictures of himself LOL. I deleted some actually! I doubt he’s an Internet star lar. If he can, I think I’m somebody already! 😛DSC03068 A long group picture:DSC03070DSC03071

Japanese Buffet at Saisaki

Just weeks ago, me and some friends went to Saisaki at Wisma UOA (near Pavilion or perhaps, KLCC). I think I actually sinned cause I think I actually gluttoned. But it was just like, endless supply of sushi, desserts, soup, fish etc etc etc. I think I can’t list them all.

Why not you take a look and tell me how that tastes? 😀

The oysters Caleb took!

This was hilarious shots! We were taking multiple shots but there were too many to be uploaded!
Treat me coffee and I show you the story okay? 😀

I guess I summarised everything in 1 post. It was tough but I think it’s better I leave it as a post by itself! Tell me if you got better restaurants to intro okay? 😀
